American Legion events

The Brainerd American Legion Post meeting will be 7 p.m. Monday.

The Past Commanders' chicken and corn feed will be 5:30 p.m. until gone Thursday at the Brainerd Legion. Cost for adults is $8; and kids 10 and under are $4.

Bella Vista/Brainerd Club meeting

The B and B Club will meet at the Sawmill Cafe in Brainerd for their monthly luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday with lunch from the menu around noon. Anyone who escapes Minnesota for the Arkansas sun is invited to join us for all events. No reservations for the lunch are required but an RSVP is appreciated.

This group of Minnesota snowbirds meets year around on the third Wednesday of the month in Bella Vista and in Brainerd on the third Thursday from June through September. For further information call Liz Curren at 575-2281.

Benefit for Ian Miles

There will be a benefit for Ian Miles, infant son of Paula Hartman and Ryan Miles, Brainerd, from 1-6 p.m. Aug. 30 at the Northland Arboretum lower level).

Ian was born May 4, nine weeks premature, and weighed 1 pound, 14 ounces.

Entertainment and a light lunch will be provided. A silent auction will be held. Donations will be accepted at the benefit or at Bremer Bank. Checks can be made out to Ian Miles.

Proceeds from the benefit will go toward costs of commuting, loss of income, medical costs, etc.

WHS class of 1954

BAXTER - The Washington High School class of 1954 will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grizzly's in Baxter.

Lakes Area Caged Bird Club

The Lakes Area Caged Bird Club is holding its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Oak Lawn Township Hall located one mile east of the junction of Highways 18 and 25.

Anyone owning a pet bird and/or having questions about pet birds is welcome to attend our meeting.

Women of the Moose chicken and corn feed

The Women of the Moose will have a chicken and corn feed from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Brainerd Moose Lodge. Cost is $7 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Call if you plan on attending so the Moose can plan accordingly. There will be reservations for groups. Call Marcy at 764-3418.

Firearms safety class

VFW Post No. 1647 will sponsor firearms safety classes on the following dates: Sept. 10, 15, 17, 22, 24 and 29. Field day will be Sept. 19. Classes run from 6-8:30 p.m. those evenings. Call 764-2237 to register. Cost is $15. Students must be 11 years old by Sept. 10. Class is limited to 25 students.

B.N.S.F. Jacks and Jills picnic

MERRFIELD - B.N.S.F. Jacks and Jills annual picnic for all paid members and their family will be 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Merrifield Park.

VFW Friday night dinner

The Mahlum-Hanson VFW Friday night dinner will be chicken and corn served from 5:30-7 p.m. or until gone Friday. Cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children.

Harvest dinner planned

NISSWA - A harvest dinner is planned for 6 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Nisswa Community Center.

Chef Matt Annand from Prairie Bay will prepare and present locally grown foods. Social hour will begin at 5 p.m. with dinner at 6 p.m.

This event is being put on to talk about local water issues such as impaired waters, water testing and findings, possible solutions that we can team together on in the local area. There will be speakers as well as live entertainment during dinner.

The event is sponsored by Cass and Crow Wing County Farm Bureaus, Crow Wing County American Dairy Association, Nisswa Farmers Market, Crow Wing River Basin Forage Council, NRCS and the local area food producers. WAPOA and Pine River Watershed Alliance support this event and encourage participation.

Cost is $20 per person. Only 300 tickets are being sold and they are going fast. For those who plan on attending can contact the Cass County Farm Bureau Office at 587-5531.

Garrison Lions roast beef dinner

GARRISON - The Garrison Lions are hosting its second annual roast beef dinner on Aug. 21 at Light of the Cross Lutheran Church in Garrison. There will be a full dinner served from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The cost for this delicious dinner will be $8. All proceeds from this event will be used for community and area needs.

Brainerd Chapter No. 738 National Association of Retired Employees

The Brainerd Chapter No. 738 National Association of Retired Employees will meet at 11:30 a.m. with lunch served at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bonanza. Program: Deb Hoffman, Master Gardener.

Widowed Friends

Senior dances

Senior dances will be 2-5 p.m. Wednesday at the Brainerd Eagles with music by the Chmielewski Band; and from 1-4 p.m. Friday at the Deerwood Legion with music by Andy and Stu.
