Last suspect in beating arrested
Staff Writer The last suspect in the July beating of a man in northeast Brainerd has been arrested in Hennepin County.
Cord Thomas Robinson, 31, was wanted on a warrant in Crow Wing County for felony assault in connection with the July 15 beating of Cameron Quickbear, 36, Brainerd, at a residence on the 1000 block of Seventh Avenue Northeast in Brainerd.
Cord Robinson, who was also wanted on a warrant for assault in Hennepin County, was arrested at about 2:30 a.m. Monday by the Minneapolis Police Department. He is being held in the Hennepin County jail on the Hennepin and Crow Wing warrants.
Cord Robinson is among a group of people accused of using objects described by witnesses as pipes, sticks or baseball bats to assault Quickbear. According to the criminal complaint filed against one of the other suspects, Cord Robinson was observed stomping on Quickbear's head.
Two others accused of attacking Quickbear, Ronald Deshun Robinson, 30, and Andrhea Lynn Fitch, 26, were charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and third-degree assault.
Fitch pleaded guilty Aug. 6 to third-degree assault and received 90 days in jail with credit for 23 already served, five years supervised probation and a $160 fine. If Fitch violates the conditions of her sentence she could be sent to prison for 18 months. The other charges against Fitch were dismissed.
Ronald Robinson's jury trial is scheduled to start Monday.
A third suspect wanted on an arrest warrant, Tyrone Sonny Robinson, 33, turned himself into police Aug. 11 and has been charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and third-degree assault.
Quickbear also was charged with felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and terroristic threats for his role in instigating the assault.
According to the criminal complaint filed against Quickbear, he had been consuming alcohol the day of the assault and had a verbal confrontation with the residents and others at the house on the 1000 block of Seventh Avenue Northeast. He is accused of yelling racial epithets and lunging at one of the individuals with a knife in each hand. The group subsequently beat Quickbear and left him lying in the street in a pool of blood. Quickbear was hospitalized for several days at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.
