A small leak has been found in a sanitary sewer pipe running under College Drive in Brainerd.
City Engineer Jeff Hulsether said Westwood Professional Services Inc., the engineering firm hired for the College Drive reconstruction project slated for 2010, noticed a drip from encased pipes under the bridge last week while performing topography work.
Tests confirmed the leak to be from a sanitary sewer pipe, Hulsether said.
It took city staffers several days to locate the leak, Hulsether said, because the pipe is leaking at a slow rate.
"If it dripped a gallon a day I'd be surprised," Hulsether said. "It's a very, very slow drip."
The city is in the process of finding equipment to get under the bridge to work on the pipe, Hulsether said. In the interim, the city is looking at a temporary fix until the problem can be found and repaired.
The leak has been reported to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, Hulsether said.
