Central Lakes College's Upward Bound Program completed its sixth Summer Bridge program.
Upward Bound students from Bertha-Hewitt, Browerville, Isle, Long Prairie-Grey Eagle, Nay-Ah-Shing, Onamia and Pierz High Schools completed the seven-week Academic Bridge Program.
Students studied and lived in campus dormitories at the College of St. Benedict and received academic instruction in core subjects such as math, science, English and German. They attended elective courses related to study skills, career exploration and creative arts.
Upward Bound students from Bertha-Hewitt, Browerville, Isle, Long Prairie-Grey Eagle, Nay-Ah-Shing, Onamia, and Pierz High Schools completed the seven-week Academic Bridge Program. The program ended with a weeklong field trip to tour Washington, D.C., where they were met by Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn.

Central Lakes College selects 100 high school students from Mille Lacs, Morrison and Todd counties to participate in the program each year. The mission is to "transform high school students into college graduates." The program has been in operation since 2003.
Students who participate in Upward Bound are four times more likely to earn an undergraduate degree than those students from similar backgrounds who did not participate in the program, CLC reported.
