Death of Cass Lake man ruled a homicide; son is expected to be charged
Staff Writer The death of a 74-year-old Cass Lake man, whose body was found Friday in a wooded area near his home, has been ruled a homicide and his son is expected to be charged for the crime Tuesday.
Cass County Sheriff Randy Fisher on Monday said autopsy results show Ivan Mann died as a result of blunt force trauma and strangulation.
Ivan Mann's son, Ronald Mann, 50, was taken into custody on Thursday in Cass County and is being held on $150,000 bail on a charge of felon in possession of a firearm. Fisher said it was expected the Cass County attorney's office would file criminal charges Tuesday against Ronald Mann in connection with his father's death.
Ivan Mann was reported missing by his family on Wednesday. After several days of searches, his body was found Friday in a wooded area about a quarter-mile west of his home. Mann had been missing for more than 10 days, the sheriff's department reported.
Ronald Mann, who was sought for questioning into Ivan Mann's disappearance, approached law enforcement on foot near his father's residence Thursday and was then taken into custody.
Fisher would not comment on the motive behind Ivan Mann's death.
