Dorothy M. Lewison
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Dorothy Mae Lewison, age 91, of Winter Haven, Fla., formerly of Crosby, died on Aug. 24, 2009, in Auburndale, Fla. She was born on Feb. 2, 1918, in Thief River Falls to Emery and Amelia (Berg) Traver.
Dorothy graduated from Lincoln High School, Thief River Falls. She continued her education a Bemidji State University, receiving a bachelor of science degree in vocational education. She was a medical technologist working for doctors in Thief River Falls and Owatonna. She also was a dental assistant for oral surgery in Oakland, Calif. In 1968 she taught dental assisting at the Brainerd Technical College, retiring in 1983.
Dorothy resided in the Little Falls area from 2002 to 2007, moving to Florida until her death.
With husband Leonard, they owned Rolling Hills resort in Mille Lacs County and Green Valley Resort in Hubbard County. She was a member of NARFE and was past president, Brainerd Retired Teachers, Retired Educators Association of Minnesota, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Myrin-James American Legion Post No. 443, Ironton, and St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Crosby, and its CCW.
She is survived by one daughter, Victoria (William) Herm, of Winter Haven, Fla.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; nieces and great-nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; significant other, Delbert Sawyer; her parents; and one brother, Calvin Traver.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, at the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Friends may call on Monday at the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby from 5-8 p.m. and on Tuesday one hour prior to the funeral.
