Pequot edges Pioneers
PIERZ - Megan Lenz outlasted Pierz's Kayla Kapsner in a three-set thriller at No. 1 singles as the Pequot Lakes Patriots edged the Pioneers 4-3 in non-conference girls' tennis Thursday.
Lenz triumphed 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 6-1 to raise her record to 11-1.
"No. 1 singles lasted all of three hours," Patriots coach Monica Lenz said. "They knew it came down to their match. It was pretty exciting for both sides.
"It was a very well-played meet. Five of the seven matches went to three sets."
Pequot's Angela Villella improved her record to 12-0 with a win at No. 2 singles. Teammate Sarah Thomas suffered her first loss in 12 matches at No. 3.
Katelyn Schmidt-Tricia Villella and Molly Peterson-Kaycee Nelson won doubles matches for the unbeaten Patriots.
Pierz's victories were by Rochelle Langer at No. 3 singles and Cassie Banick at No. 4. Its No. 1 doubles team of Kaari Jensen-Jayme Sczublewski also won.

PARK RAPIDS - Hanna Christenson and Kaitlyn Risnes each won a singles match and paired to win a doubles match as the Crosby-Ironton Rangers defeated Detroit Lakes 5-2 and lost to Park Rapids 5-2 Thursday in Mid-State Conference tennis.
The Rangers swept the doubles and saw Savanah Fore and Alice Bertram win singles matches against DL.
