LOCAL BRIEFS Cleaners to collect blankets to donate
The Minnesota Cleaners Association will collect new and gently used blankets through September to donate to the Sharing and Caring Hands in Minneapolis.
Sharing and Caring Hands is an assistance center for inner-city poor that serves 20,000 monthly. Donations in Brainerd will be accepted at Anderson Cleaners, 416 S. Eighth St.; Crystal Cleaners and Tailors, 421 W. Washington St.; and Meyer Cleaners, 423 Washington St.
League of Women Voters to review legislative session Sept. 8
The League of Women Voters of the Brainerd Lakes Area will host a meeting to review the latest Minnesota legislative session at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 8 at the Brainerd Public Library.
Nancy Witta, a lobbyist for the league, will provide her assessment of the session and discuss the league's agenda for the coming session. Witta has been an active league member for more than 40 years. She previously served as president of the League of Women Voters of Minneapolis. She served as action coordinator for the league's state office before lobbying for the organization. Witta is a summer resident of Gull Lake.
The meeting, which is open to the public, is in the large conference room of the library at 415 S. Fifth St. League members are invited to attend a short business meeting and brown bag lunch at 11:30 a.m. The public program runs noon-1 p.m.
