Superintendent's evaluation released
PEQUOT LAKES -- The Pequot Lakes School Board Thursday made public the summary results of Superintendent Percy Lingen's evaluation.

Last week the board met in closed session to go over her evaluation, which was made after a survey was sent to board members and district staff members.

Lingen's strengths included helping to put together new and more effective staff development teams; encouraging advanced class offerings and staff additions to the classrooms; keeping up regular contact with the board; showing a willingness to answer questions and offer advice; getting the district's policy manual updated; addressing concerns in the district; having a strong aptitude for finance; sharing negotiations strategies with the board; and working well with other area superintendents and county collaborative.

Lingen's weaknesses as a school superintendent included the need for her to become more familiar with district programs and the need for her to communicate more than once a week to the board regarding issues that involve community and staff relations. The report said Lingen has not presented a long-range plan for the educational needs for the district. Some community members, staff and parents have felt alienated by her, the report said. She has not done strategic planning and did not provide the board with final form contracts when they were being voted on. The evaluation also said Lingen needs to make more contact with elected officials.

The evaluation summary concluded: "Superintendent Lingen has a proven knowledge and strength of finance and policy within a school setting. She is capable of carrying out the school board's actions and requests. The school board feels she has the most potential to grow professionally in her interpersonal relations with administration, staff, parents and community."

Board chair Mike Clausen said the personnel committee would meet Sept. 29 with Lingen to go over her goals as superintendent.

Lingen has served as Pequot Lakes superintendent since July 2004.
