20 years ago (1985)
The 1985-86 school year is off and running with the Brainerd district and others reporting increases over opening day last year. The Brainerd School District reported a first-day enrollment of 6,369 compared to 6,282 in the 1984-85 school year.
30 years ago (1975)
Some 400 firemen from the northern half of Minnesota are in Brainerd today for the Northern Minnesota State Fire and Rescue School.
40 years ago (1965)
The Minnesota State Fair's FFA Agricultural Mechanics Award was won by the Milaca Future Farmers of America. Chapter members of the Milaca chapter captured 23 ribbons.
60 years ago (1945)
The Brainerd Junior College, with an enrollment of 32 students, 20 percent more than attended last year, launched its' 1945-46 educational program.
80 years ago (1925)
At the Aitkin Gun Club shoot, Roger Fawcett, age 17, son of Captain William H. Fawcett of Breezy Point Lodge Gun Club, won the amateur honors of the shoot, breaking 152 clay birds out of 160.
100 years ago (1905)
The festive prairie chicken is the much discussed subject today for as the hunters return one by one to the city they have their stories to tell. Generally speaking chicken hunting for the final day did not anywhere compare with last year's shooting.
