Ready to 'Roll' MOUNTED EAGLES
Mounted Eagles will host its sixth annual "Walk 'N' Roll So They Can Ride" fundraising event Sept. 12, from Nisswa to Pequot Lakes.
Walkers, runners, bikers, in-line skaters, skateboarders, wheelchairs and strollers are encouraged to join in the six-mile event along the Paul Bunyan Trail from the Nisswa Chamber gazebo to the Pequot Lakes Baptist Church Trailside Center.
The awards ceremony for walkers/rollers is scheduled at the Trailside Center. Awards will be given to the team with the most participants, team with the most pledges, adult with the most pledges, youth with the most pledges along with other categories. There is a minimum pledge of $25 per participant ages 9 and older. Children 8 and younger are encouraged to take part in the walk as well and may collect pledges, too.
Elvis will be there to kick off the Walk 'N' Roll with a bit of Rock 'N' Roll.
Registration begins at 2 p.m., with the walk starting at 3 p.m. Transportation will be provided from the Trailside Center back to Nisswa (for participants to pick up their vehicles).
Participants, as well as community members, are invited for an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner, silent auction and live entertainment at the Trailside Center. Dinner will be served from 3-7:30 p.m, Elvis will perform from 4-4:30 p.m. and the C.C. Chips Country Band will perform from 5-8 p.m. The silent auction will be open from 3-7:30 p.m.
Cost, which includes dinner and concert, is $8 for those 13 and older, $5 for children ages 6-12 and free for children 5 and younger.
This is the Mounted Eagles' major fundraising event. The nonprofit organization, serving Aitkin, Cass, Crow Wing, Mille Lacs, Morrison and Todd counties, depends on it to cover general expenses for horse care and to supplement its Ridership Fund, a financial assistance fund for those who can't afford to pay the fee for the therapeutic horsemanship and equine-assisted activities.
Children and adults who face physical, mental, social and/or emotional challenges benefit physically by building muscle tone and strength. Their minds and souls are strengthened as well by creating a feeling of well-being and acceptance which, in turn, increases self-esteem.
Major event sponsors include the Baxter Lions Club, Brainerd Lakes Surgery Center, Consolidated Telephone Company, Crow Wing Recycling, Grand Casino Mille Lacs, Grattan Healthcare, Northstar Kigers, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Chapter 31300/A Caring Abounds Community Project, Pequot Lakes Physical Therapy Services, Lakeland Agency and Garrison VFW Post 1816.
