Mille Lacs Band members Anthony Pike (left) and Quintin Sam (right) were recognized for their military service at a special ceremony leading up to the band's traditional powwow Aug. 14. Both were home on leave from their respective assignments in Iraq and San Diego.
Pike is a sergeant with the 34th Red Bull Infantry Division of the Minnesota Army National Guard. Over the last few months, his division has been working with Iraqi security forces to help protect the people of Iraq. Sam, a lance corporal in the United States Marine Corps, is stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar. He is awaiting deployment to Afghanistan at anytime between now and January. Once in Afghanistan, he is scheduled to become a part of the Third Marine Air Wing.
