CASS LAKE - Hubie Brown, two-time NBA Coach of the Year and one of the leading coaching clinicians in the world, will make his first trip to Minnesota for two events this fall.
The first will be Oct. 18 at New Life Academy in Woodbury and Oct. 19 at Cass Lake-Bena High School in Cass Lake.
The events are called the "Students of the Game" clinics since coaches, athletes and the public are invited to attend. Pre-registration fee, including a Hubie Brown instructional DVD, is $40. The fee without the DVD is $10. Pre-registration deadline is Oct. 10. An additional $10 will be charged the day of the event.
Each event will feature three hours of on-court demonstration. Check-in at each venue is 10 a.m. and the event ends at 2 p.m.
Brown's coaching career spans 33 years, including 15 in the NBA where he led the new York Knicks to two playoff appearances in five seasons (1982-87). He coached the Atlanta Hawks to three playoff appearances in five seasons (1976-81); and led the Kentucky Colonels to an American Basketball Association Championship in 1975.
He has also spent 15 years as a teacher at coaching clinics and as an NBA analyst for three television networks. Brown was nominated for a Sports Emmy in 1994 and 1999, and received the Curt Gowdy Electronic Media Award from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000.
Brown was enshrined into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass., in September 2005.
