Blue Wave' event slated Friday at Warriors game

The Brainerd Warrior Football Association is promoting a "Join the Blue Wave" event for the home opener Friday night against the Bemidji Lumberjacks at Adamson Field.

BWFA is asking fans to show their support by purchasing jersey-replica T-shirts and filling the stands with Warrior blue at all home games this season.

Proceeds from this promotion will be used to support Brainerd football programs at every level, from youth to varsity.

Replica T-shirts may be purchased at Adamson Field on Friday night. Cost is $10, or three for $20.

A number of area businesses have jointly sponsored production of the shirts. Names of those businesses appear on the shirts.

Hallberg defensive player of week

Andrew Hallberg of Central Lakes College has been named co-defensive player of the week with Bradon Torry of Ridgewater in the Southern Division of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference.

Hallberg, a linebacker from Aitkin, had five tackles and returned a fumble recovery 57 yards for a touchdown in the Raiders' 40-12 season-opening victory over Fond Du Lac.

The Raiders play Northland at Thief River Falls at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

JV girls win

Brainerd defeated Willmar 4-0 in junior varsity girls' soccer Thursday.

Warrior goals were by Natalie Taylor, Hannah Smith, Taryn Ruttger and Rachel Ford. Brainerd had 29 shots to the Cardinals' four.. Warriors goalie Brooke Nelson had four saves.

Next game for Brainerd (2-1) is 1 p.m. Saturday against Elk River.

JV tennis wins 9 matches

The Brainerd junior varsity girls' tennis team won two singles and seven doubles matches Thursday against Alexandria.

Mackayla Headlee and Briana Rademacher won singles matches.

Doubles winners included Jinna Toft-Jackie Thurlow, Nicole Gervenak-Courtney Tusler, Mara Williams-Alex Williamson, Taylor Ott-Kelsey Ott, Krista Bjork-Alexa Wright, Hannah Stoll-Julie Ashburn and Shannon Chalupsky-Corrina Schmidt.
