Prescription drug cards offered CASS COUNTY BOARD Cass County Correspondent WALKER - Cass County residents will be able to obtain a prescription drug discount card from Health, Human and Veterans Services office in Walker or any family center in the county beginning Oct. 1. Some pharmacies also will offer them.
The card will provide an average of 20 percent discount on prescription drugs at any area pharmacy. It is available to anyone, regardless of income or age.
It does not cover non-prescription drugs, but does cover many diabetic supplies.
The card also can be used for prescribed pet medications if they are purchased at a pharmacy.
The discount card cannot be used for co-pay or gaps in a prescription drug insurance, but can be used if you have insurance coverage and a medication you use is not covered at all under your insurance plan. It cannot be used for a deductible period for an insurance plan.
Cass County will offer the discount program through a National Association of Counties program, so the card can be used at many pharmacies throughout the nation and at most major chain pharmacies.

Because pharmacies' prices may vary, people will need to contact the pharmacy where they intend to purchase drugs to obtain a quote on the savings for the intended prescription.

The card may be used to purchase up to a 90-day supply of selected medications by mail through Caremark Mail Service for a fixed price. Call the 877 number or visit the Caremark Web site above for more information.
Medications for a variety of chronic conditions including multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, cystic fibrosis, hemophilia, infertility, immunologic disorders, Crohn's disease, Gaucher disease, pulmonary hypertension, Fabry disease, MPS 1, blood dyscrascia, growth hormone deficiency, respiratory syncytial virus, hepatitis C and others are available from Caremark's specialty pharmacy.
