DNR working on trail options near Outing
WALKER - The Cass County Board learned this week that the DNR is working to create motorized and non-motorized trail options within Land O' Lakes State Forest by Outing. Five forests in other counties also are being evaluated, he said.

When complete, the trails within Land O' Lakes will be closed unless posted open. The DNR's Keith Simar said the DNR expects to have proposed trail maps ready for review at public meetings by January or February.

Cheryal Lee Hills, Region Five executive director, reported to Cass County commissioners Tuesday on her agency's focus on economic development programs in the region.

Region Five has qualified to receive economic development funding, she said, and has placed the proposed hospital at Walker as a top priority. The agency is developing entrepreneurial networks and will host workshops in November for business owners.

Cass commissioners Tuesday approved an easement to give Bruce and Karen Eveland access to property they own on the south shore of Leech Lake. That action permits installation of a turn-around at the end of an existing road for road maintenance equipment and acknowledges that the Evelands' neighbor has sufficient land remaining after the turn-around is installed to place a septic system on his property in the future.
