With the second annual Community Homecoming just a few weeks away, community members are asked to round up their memorabilia to be included in a display in the former Washington High School during the week of homecoming.
Jenny Holmes, communications coordinator with the Brainerd School District, is once again coordinating the display. Holmes said last year she received an overwhelming response and said the display was well-received by the community.
The display will be extended this year to two days and will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 2 and 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 3 in the board room at what is now known as the Washington Educational Services Building on Oak Street in Brainerd. Alumni from the Washington High School Class of 1954 have once again volunteered to help with the display, manning the doors and greeting visitors.
Holmes said this year, in hopes of making the display even bigger and better, she is inviting not only those with Warrior memorabilia but also those with community memorabilia - including old photos of the lakes area or interesting items from the community.
All items loaned for the event can be retrieved by the owners the week following homecoming and will be kept locked up for safekeeping. Those interested in loaning items for the memorabilia display are asked to bring them to Room No. 113 at Washington Educational Services Building from now until Oct. 1.
