Anderson wins back-to-back Axes
North Central Speedway
Tim Johnson was one of the busiest drivers at North Central Speedway Sunday. In addition to running Street Stock and Super Stock, Johnson added a Midwest Modified and a Sprint car to his agenda.

Johnson won his first Mighty Axe trophy with a victory in the Street Stock feature. After a second-row start, Johnson claimed first with two laps remaining.

Kevin Schmidt started from the first row. A victory was in his sights after finishing second behind Mark Johnson Saturday. Schmidt held the lead for all but the last two laps.

Pure Stock

Mike Smude started from row three and moved into the top three on lap three. He snuck past Mark Olson with three laps left.

Olson then got caught up with Chris Siedel on the front straightaway.

That moved the battle between Smude and Allen Brehmer, who finished second in Saturday's feature. Brehmer held the lead for the first 17 laps, but had to settle for the runner-up finish again behind Smude. Bradley Nelson finished third.

Midwest Modified

Season points champion Dan Ebert, and Saturday's Mighty Axe winner Shane Sabraski shared the front row for the start of the Midwest Modified feature. Earlier in the day, the two shared a ride in an airplane with Ebert at the controls and Sabraski the white-knuckled passenger.

Ebert was in control of the feature race, too, as he pulled away from Sabraski and Ryan Kriese early on his way to the victory. Kriese finished second with Tim Johnson, who drove in two feature events Sunday, wrestled away third from Sabraski.

Super Stock

Don Eischens swept the feature races with a follow up victory Sunday. Eischens found the high side of the track to his liking. He snatched the lead from John Yilek, who ran the low side with four laps remaining.

Yilek finished second with Dan Gullickson third.

Eischens started from the front row and dropped back early. He never fell out of the top three, and was in second on lap 13. His strategy Saturday was to practice patience. It worked again Sunday as he was in first with four laps left.

A-Modified

Dale Mathison had a big turnaround with a feature victory Sunday. Mathison crashed out of Saturday's race and had to travel home to Clearwater for parts. His car was ready to go Sunday and he had a third row start.

Mathison secured first just five laps into the race and did not relinquish it. Shane Sabraski and Justin Jones started from the front row, but neither finished in the top three.

Scot Danzeisen grabbed second coming from row three along side Mathison. Eric Martini finished third.

UMSS Sprints

For Brainerd's Sye Anderson, the only thing sweeter then one victory in the Mighty Axe Nationals Saturday night was a follow up victory Sunday. Anderson earned his second victory running in first place from beginning to end.

Anderson had come in without a victory in the Upper Midwest Sprint Car Series, but held the seventh spot in the season points race behind Jerry Richert, who won in July at NCS.

Anderson's biggest challenge came with two laps left on a caution restart. He held off the hard charging Kenny Melanson and Eric Lutz for the victory.
