The crew pulled a 32-foot wooden York boat out of the water Thursday at Lum Park in Brainerd. The boat, similar to those used by the Hudson Bay Trading Co. in the 1800s, was built recently in Canada for the Old Man River Project. The group will travel the length of the Mississippi River from Bemidji to the Gulf of Mexico in Louisiana - a distance of 2,400 miles - without burning a tank a gas. More information is available online at www.oldmanriverproject.org. The Old Man River Project supports the mission of Lower Mississippi Riverkeeper, which is to protect, preserve and restore the ecological integrity of the Mississippi River basin for current users and future generations through advocacy and citizen action.
