Olander joins Complete Excavation
Matt Olander recently joined Complete Excavation as operations manager in the Brainerd lakes area.
His knowledge and experience of foundations and septics will be utilized by this family-owned business.
Archibald achieves MBA
BAXTER - Anne Archibald, vice president, chief financial officer for A. Johnson Enterprises, Baxter, recently achieved an MBA degree from Athabasca University.
Archibald previously earned the Certified Management Accountant designation after attending the University of North Dakota and Brainerd High School. Archibald oversees the financial management of Johnson Properties, Integrated Retirement Initiatives, Minnesota Thermal Science and Silent Power for Johnson Enterprises.
Norgon gains Microsoft Certified Trainer status
Rob Norgon was recently awarded Microsoft Certified Trainer status by Microsoft Corp.
Norgon earned this certification by completing all requirements of the Microsoft Applications Specialist program. He passed certification exams on Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook 2007 and Vista for the Business Worker. In addition, he also was awarded Microsoft Applications Specialist Instructor status in recognition of his 39 years of teaching experience, including business education for 34 years at Pequot Lakes High School and community education classes both in Brainerd and Pequot Lakes.
Norgon teaches 31 Microsoft Office 2003/2007 courses at the Consolidated Telecommunications Co. lab in Baxter. He has worked with CTC for five years and teaches the Microsoft courses in their lab equipped with 14 computers. He has also taught on-site for businesses and for the Minnesota National Guard in the conversion to Office 2007.
Roach completes advanced acting camp
Bethanni Roach recently completed Emmy-nominated actor and acting coach Chambers Stevens Advanced acting camp and scene study in Hollywood, Calif.
Roach is with Arquette & Associates Model and Talent Agency and Moore Creative Talent in Minneapolis. She is the daughter of Tracy and Dan Roach of Merrifield.
Pulsifer joins Ernie's as executive chef
Chef Jon Pulsifer recently joined Ernie's on Gull restaurant as executive chef.
Pulsifer began his career with training at St. Cloud Technical School in Commercial Food, but most of his expertise comes from on-the-job training mostly in the Twin Cities area. Originally from Hopkins, Pulsifer has been in the food industry for 30 years. His training included working with a master chef from Morocco. He opened up R. Norman's and Yvette's in River Place, as was well as working at the Hotel Sofitel in the Twin Cities. His area credits include Iven's on the Bay, Manhattan Beach, Renata's and many years at The Wharf. He plans to revamp the menu and serve his famous lobster bisque soup.
Martin attends workshop
STAPLES - Kay Martin, kindergarten through fifth grade visual arts teacher in the Staples-Motley School District, attended a workshop on a new mandate to teach about Minnesota Indians' contributions and identities.
Martin learned about American Indian hoop dancing techniques at the beginning of a teacher workshop on the contributions of Minnesota Indian tribes to the state.

Stellar Health Care is hosting the Friday Morning Coffee event from 7:30-9 a.m. Friday at 109 Fifth St. N.E., Little Falls. Stellar Health Care includes Phenomenal Rehabilitation and Preferred Choice Chiropractic.
Announcements and introductions will be at 8:15 a.m.

Grand Casino joins event to end hunger
ONAMIA - Grand Casino Mille Lacs and Grand Casino Hinckley will participate in Share Our Strength's Great American Dine Out, a week-long national restaurant event to help end hunger.
From Sept. 20-26, thousands of restaurants, including the Grand Buffets at Grand Casino Mille Lacs and Grand Casino Hinckley, will join to raise funds to help end childhood hunger in America. Proceeds from each buffet purchased that week will go to Share Our Strength.
Share Our Strength is a leading organization working to end childhood hunger in America. The first Great American Dine Out in 2008 raised more than $500,000.

Duluth News Tribune names publisher
DULUTH (AP) - The general manager of the Duluth News Tribune has been promoted to publisher.
Forum Communications Co., which owns the News Tribune and four community papers, has named Ken Browall as its new publisher, a job that has been vacant since last winter.
The 45-year-old Browall has worked at the News Tribune for nearly a decade. He was publisher of the Superior Daily Telegram before joining the News Tribune.
GM to restore salaried worker pay cuts
DETROIT (AP) - A person familiar with the matter says General Motors Co. is telling employees in an e-mail that it will restore white-collar pay cuts made earlier this year, as of Sept. 1.
The person requested anonymity because no official announcement has been made.
The company cut executive-level pay by 10 percent, manager pay by 7 percent and most other salaries by 5 percent in the spring as it struggled to avoid bankruptcy protection.
The cuts in the U.S., Canada and several other countries saved millions but GM ended up spending 40 days in bankruptcy.
