Always something happening at senior center in Brainerd
The Lakes Area Senior Activity Center is proud to be a co-sponsor of the Ageless Expo on Saturday that runs from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Forestview Middle School. We have supported the expo since it began in 1999. It has been exciting to watch it grow over the years, evolving into a community event for seniors.

The senior center's mission is to provide activities, classes, events, programs and services geared for seniors, which will support their independence and enhance their dignity and quality of life. The Ageless Expo certainly fits into that mission. There will be presentations on senior related topics, entertainment from performing senior groups and exhibitors who have information for seniors of our community. It is your one stop location for questions, answers and information. Check it out, you'll be glad you did.

Other upcoming events at the senior center are: Senior Homecoming Dinner and Dance will be held Oct. 2. Celebrate homecoming with other seniors with a great dinner and dance that will be held at the senior center. Dinner will be held at 6 p.m.; dance to follow at 7:15 p.m. Your menu choices for dinner are chicken or Salisbury steak. Cost is $10 per person. Sign up by calling the senior center at 829-9345. After dinner, you'll dance to Frank Sinatra or the big band sounds of the 30s and 40s. Seating is limited, so sign up soon. This event sponsored by the senior center and the Central Lakes College Foundation.

The annual fall craft and bake sale will be held Oct. 10 at the senior center, 803 Kingwood St., Brainerd. Every room of the center will be filled with fall crafts. Vendors are members of the senior center and bring in their hand crafted items to sell. You will find many treasures and gifts for those who are hard to shop for. There also will be a bake sale with a variety of goods to good to pass up. You'll want to get there early, to get your pick of the best home baked items.

The senior center has many special events throughout the year, but we are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you are not a member and would like to see all that we have to offer, stop in for a tour. The coffee is always on.

DEANN BARRY is the Lakes Area Senior Activity Center director.
