Roz Haapajoki was presented with the Chamber of Commerce's Athena Award at the annual dinner of the Brainerd Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce. She is the First Bank Brainerd account executive and assistant vice president. The award annually honors a woman who is outstanding in her profession and the community.

The Brainerd Garden Club announces that the yard of the Jack Jelacie home, 616 Second Avenue N.E., was the winner of the "Yard of the Month" contest for August.

Residents of the Brainerd School District are facing a 77 mill increase to cover almost a $1 million boost in the budget for the 1968-69 school year. The board was also told that the district is going to be $226,265 short when it comes time to make the final payments for the new high school.

Comparatively on its "last legs," the time worn northeast Brainerd hose house that has served firemen and the public for over 40 years, may soon be torn down and a one story modern concrete structure placed in its stead.

The Brainerd band will go to Pine River tomorrow to play at the third annual fair of the Cass County Agricultural Association. Over $1,800 is being offered as premiums and prizes.
