Daniel H. Schulist
NISSWA - Daniel Herbert Schulist, 70, of Nisswa, died Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Baxter, Minn. Services for Daniel will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at Timberwood Church in Nisswa. Friends are welcome to gather Thursday evening from 5-8 p.m. at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Interment will follow services on Friday at Greenwood Cemetery in Nisswa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to SONshine Ministries, a charity established by Dan and Pat with their friends, Keith and Linda Axvig in 2004 that works with pastors in Mexico to provide medical care, food and household goods to families, especially single mothers, living in poverty.
Daniel was born Dec. 1, 1938, in Chicago, the son of Stanley and Lillian (Gorski) Schulist. In 1970, he met Patricia Berg in Minneapolis. The couple married in 1972 and lived in Minneapolis and Andover, Minn., before moving to Nisswa in 1988. Together they founded Lakeland Mold located in the Brainerd Industrial Park. Working together was the best experience of their lives. In 1999, they retired but still retained ownership of the company. They began to winter in Scottsdale, Ariz., where they enjoyed golfing. Daniel's goal in life was to serve the Lord. He was a charter member of Timberwood Church. His family was always first to Daniel. He loved to fly and owning his own plane made it more accessible to visit his family around the country. He also liked boating and fishing.
Daniel will be greatly missed by his wife of 37 years, Pat; his daughters, Ruthanne Catherine (Larry) Freeman, of Indiana, Lisa Marie (Scot) Hill, of Texas, and Sarah Frances (Herb) Morrison, of Texas; his stepchildren, David Kjenstad, of Fargo, N.D., Todd Kjenstad, of Andover, and Lynette Lange, of Ariz.; his brother, Jerry Schulist, of Texas; his sister, Joan Raispis, of Alabama; his grandchildren, Hannah, Gabriel, Madeline, Elizabeth, Rachel, Quarter, Grace, Lillian, Jesse, Garrett, Keegan, Nicholas and Brendan; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and a ton of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Tom.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
