Glen Hasselberg, Staples High School girls' golf coach fired a two-over par 109 Sunday to walk away with the first annual Brainerd Golf Classic Championship. Jim Sutton from Bemidji was running with a 116 and Leo Marchel had a 117 and Clyde Anderson with a 118.

The Fifty-Twosome Dance Club will begin its 1968-69 dance season with a dance Friday night at the Brainerd Country Club. Theme of the dance will be "Back to School Days."

In the presence of 79 Brainerd golf enthusiasts Dr. W. E. Fitzsimons, chairman of the Golf Course Committee burned the mortgage on the local golf course at a dinner for promoters and supports of the Junior Chamber of Commerce Golf Course program.

A recent telegram received by Mrs. J.A. Thabes, chairman of Brainerd Red Cross Chapter, conveys the news that the Brainerd relief quota has been increased from $250 to $500 on account of the growing extent of the Florida catastrophe.
100 years ago (1908)
That Brainerd would be a first class point for a wholesale fruit house is shown by the amount of fruit sold here this season. It was told by a fruit salesman that over 8,000 boxes of peaches were sold in this city so far this season.
