Composite drawing released of Morrison County attempted kidnapper
Staff Writer The Morrison County Sheriff's Department has released a composite drawing of the suspect in a Sept. 12 attempted abduction of two boys in southern Morrison County.
The suspect is described as a white male in his 50s, with a heavyset build and wearing reading glasses with very thin frames. The suspect had a well-trimmed gray and black beard, and gray and black hair trimmed around his ears.
The suspect was further described as having a sloped nose, tan or dirty skin, wrinkles and was wearing a red and black flannel hat with a very short bill, and a red and black flannel long-sleeve shirt with denim overalls.
Sheriff Michel Wetzel said his department has investigated several leads into the attempted abduction, but no suspects have developed in the case.
"Certainly we hope it will generate some solid leads that point us in the right direction," said Wetzel of the composite drawing.
The sheriff's department hired a Twin Cities-based artist who has worked with the St. Paul Police Department and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Wetzel said.
The attempted abduction happened about 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 12 in a rural area of southern Morrison County. The suspect allegedly attempted to lure two young boys who were waiting for the school bus into his pickup. The suspect left the area as the school bus approached.
The suspect was the only occupant of an older model, dark red or maroon V-8 Ford extended cab diesel pickup with a long box and a black bug deflector. The wheel wells and hood, near the windshield area, were rusted; and the vehicle's tires were mounted on gray rims with black lug nuts and a Ford emblem in the center of the rim. Also, there were yellow cab lights on the roof of the pickup. Numerous boxes with blue tape were also seen in the bed of the truck.
Anyone with information about this case or having seen the individual or pickup should contact the Morrison County Sheriff's Department at (320) 632-9233 or at (866) 401-1111 ext. 180.
In an unrelated case, Baxter police officers continue to look for a suspicious man who was driving slowly by residences Sept. 13 and Sept. 15 where young girls were playing outside.
Baxter Police officers are looking for a smaller black or blue four-door sedan that may have been a Honda and a driver described as a white male, about 25, with short dark hair that was especially short around the ears.
Chief Jim Exsted said receives one or two leads a day on the suspicious vehicle, but so far none have led them to a suspect. He said investigators also have checked with probation officers and have gone through files of registered sex offenders.
Anyone who has seen the vehicle or person matching the description is asked to call the Baxter Police Department at (218) 454-5090 or the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department at 829-4749.
