Lightning strike
leaves Nisswa
in the dark
Staff Writer A lightning strike Wednesday night at a electric substation knocked out power to the city of Nisswa.
Paul Brissett, public affairs spokesman for Minnesota Power, said the lightning strike happened about 6:30 p.m., locking out a main feeder line. He said it wasn't immediately known how many customers were without power, but that the area was fairly large.
Minnesota Power crews responded to the area immediately to reroute power and by 7:10 p.m. started restoring customers.
Brissett said it wasn't known how long it would be until power was fully restored.
"They will work until it's done," he said.
The National Weather Service in Duluth reported .35 inches of rain fell Wednesday at the Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport.
The weather service also has forecast a 30 percent chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms mainly after 1 p.m. Thursday in the Brainerd area. The forecast also calls for a chance of rain through the upcoming weekend.
