Open Forum Why we should replace the Republicans
If you voted for the current governor of Minnesota, King Bush and other Republicans who did not dare raise the income taxes of those most able to pay for the cost of government -- blame them -- vote those instigators out. The wealthy got their breaks in the Reagan years also. Meanwhile the poor get poorer and rich get richer -- and the middle class is nearly gone.
In Minnesota the Taxpayers League and many Republicans in Minnesota are also at fault. Instead of using the Minnesota state income tax as the primary means of raising taxes to run the government, they load the burden onto property taxes which are inherently regressive because the property tax does not match the people's ability to pay. The income tax does -- it matches the people's ability to pay because it is a progressive form of taxation and fairer. Clearly, more and more retirees seeing higher medical costs will not be able to meet ordinary living costs and the higher taxes on their homes.
Nationally the same imbalance is quite apparent. King Bush and his entourage can live royally -- their income is protected. They can afford the best health care.
They also protect the incomes of corporations and other high-end earners. Then they pass the costs to the lower classes. Oil does indeed run this White House and Congress!
Now that we (some of us at least) have the needless, never-ending war and disaster expenses that continue to grow, will the omnipotent monarch suggest having the wealthy -- those who get the breaks the rest of society do not -- step up to the plate? Probably not!
Just vote to replace them.
