Fishing
Minnesota Report
BRAINERD/NISSWA AREA
Lindy Rigs and redtails are producing walleyes early and late in the day in 20 to 28 feet of water on Gull Lake, North Long Lake and Pelican Lake. Panfish reports have been limited, but North Long has provided the area's most steady northern pike action. The bigger fish are hitting large redtail minnows along the 20- foot weedlines.
CROSBY AREA
The Portsmouth Pit is producing good-sized northern pike. Large minnows have worked best close to shore. Crappies and sunfish continue to hit in 12 to 16 feet of water on Little Rabbit Lake, Black Hoof Lake and Serpent Lake. Serpent Lake is providing the area's best walleye bite in 16 feet of water with redtails and jigs. Rabbit Lake is producing some walleyes during the evening hours in slightly deeper water.
CROSS LAKE AREA
Redtail minnows are producing walleyes in 12 to 28 feet of water on Whitefish Lake, Crosslake and Pelican Lake. These fish can be found near weedlines. Some anglers are finding success with crankbaits on the shoreline breaks as well. Northern pike are hitting sucker minnows on the weedlines and most small lakes have provided steady bass action. Crappies and sunfish are suspended off the 12- to 20-foot points and submerged islands.
HACKENSACK AREA
Look to the weedlines of Portage Lake with sucker minnows and spinners for northern pike. Lindsey Lake is kicking out crappies in 10 to 15 feet. Walleye action has picked up on Ten Mile Lake. Trolling Rapalas over 20 feet of water has worked best. There's a jig and minnow bite on Ten Mile over 27 feet as well. Bass fishing remains consistent on most lakes, but muskie reports have been limited.
LAKE MILLE LACS
EAST - Numbers of jumbo perch are being caught on jigs and minnows in Isle Bay and near Malone Island in six feet of water. Walleyes continue to hit at night on the eight- to 12-foot rocks. Trolling crankbaits has worked best on Hawkbill Reef, around Hennepin Island, or any of the rock reefs south of Big Point. Muskie and northern pike reports have been limited.
WEST - Slip bobber and leech combinations are producing walleyes at night. The best reports continue to come off the flats in 32 to 34 feet of water. The midday bite has been tough, although trolling crankbaits over deep water, between 34 to 36 feet, off the flats does produce fish. Look to Sherman's Flat, Seguchie's Flat and the Seven Mile as primary targets. Muskie anglers are finding success in the weedy bays and sand areas on the north shore.
LEECH LAKE AREA
Walleyes are hitting a jig and minnow in six to 12 feet of water off Pine Point and in 15 to 20 feet of water on the humps in Walker Bay. Trolling crankbaits has been turning walleyes on the West Goose Flats during the evening hours. Muskie reports have been limited and they seem to be scattered on the rocks, weeds, and along the pencil reed areas. The perch bite has been excellent in six to eight feet of water in the Walker Narrows.
