Forbes Martinson
WYOMING - Forbes Martinson, age 70, of Wyoming, Minn.

Forbes has gone to sing with the Seraphim and Cherubim. I'm sure he's discussing with his dad what anthem will be sung next and which one of them gets to direct.

Forbes Martinson

He was born March 18, 1939, to Mary Beth Forbes and Alvin Martinson in south Minneapolis where he grew up. He graduated from Washburn High School in 1957 and remained friends with many of his classmates all of his life; they were very important to him.

He married Vivian Robidoux and they had four children: Nancy, of St. Paul, Christopher (Cindy), of Cottage Grove, Dawn (Carl) Green, of Duluth, Alvin (Brenda), of Champlin. Forbes married Germaine Olsen Cincoski and acquired eight more children: Jessica (Bill) Kinney, of Duvall, Wash., Julia Olsen, of Red Wing, Nick (Adrianna), of Honolulu, Hawaii, Peter, of Stillwater, Joe (Mary), of Oakdale, Amy (Ted) Morrow, of Brook Park, Laurentia (Andrew) McIntosh, of Colfax, Wis., Adam (Raina), of Plymouth. He is survived by Germaine, his beloved wife of 33 years; all 12 children; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Paul (Susan), David (Pat), Bruce (Kathy); and sister, Susan.

He was a retired policeman serving in Edina, Cottage Grove and was the first chief in Woodbury.

Besides his family, his passion was music and he sang with male choruses most of his life, the last 26 years with the Staples Area Men's Chorus. He served as executive secretary of the Associated Male Choruses of America for several terms and was a lifetime member. Forbes lived in Brainerd for 13 years and then in Pequot Lakes for 15 years, where he served on Planning and Zoning and a term as mayor. He and Germaine were selected as citizens of the year in 2006. He was involved in many community activities. He proudly served his country as a sailor and was a member of the American Legion and a lifetime member of the VFW.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Staples Area Men's Chorus.

Arrangements are with Mattson Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
