Crosby's Scott LeDoux to enter UMD Hall of Fame on Friday
Crosby native Scott LeDoux will be one of six former athletes inducted into the University of Minnesota-Duluth Athletic Hall of Fame Friday.
LeDoux lettered three years with the Bulldogs' football team, including 1968 when he started on the offensive and defensive lines, before pursuing a career in professional boxing.
As an amateur boxer, he won the Upper Midwest Golden Gloves heavyweight title while a sophomore at UMD.
LeDoux posted a record of 33-13 with four draws in 50 professional bouts and is the only fighter to have boxed 11 world champions, including George Foreman, Muhammed Ali, Larry Holmes, Leon Spinks, Ken Norton, Frank Bruno, Mike Weaver, Gerrie Coetzee, Mike Tyson (training camp) and Lennox Lewis (training camp).
He fought for the heavyweight championship in 1978 (USBA vs. Mike Weaver) and in 1980 (WBC vs. Larry Holmes).
LeDoux, who retired from the ring in 1983, served on the Minnesota Boxing Commission for 18 years and was appointed commissioner in 2006. He also was the lead ring analyst for ESPN2 Tuesday Night Fights and Friday Night Fights broadcasts. He's now an Anoka County Commissioner and executive director of the Minnesota Combative Sports Commission.
He will be inducted with Jeff Guidinger (basketball), Ron Johnson (golf), Derek Plante (hockey), the late Corey Veech (football) and three-time all-conference selection Ann (Patet) Henry (softball).
A banquet will be held Friday in Duluth's Greysolon Plaza. Social hour is at 5:30 p.m., dinner at 6:15 p.m. and program at 7 p.m.
The six will be recognized at halftime of UMD's 1 p.m. football game against Minnesota State University-Moorhead Saturday.
