CLC wins 'Axe' from Ridgewater COLLEGE FOOTBALL
WILLMAR - Coming into Saturday's Southern Division football game against the Central Lakes College Raiders, the Ridgewater College Warriors were 3-1 and ranked No. 2 in the state.
That ranking will change as CLC pulled off a 23-12 upset.
The Raiders' passing tandem of quarterback Mike Behler and receiver Nate Schoenecker hooked up eight times for 142 yards and two touchdowns.
Behler ended the game 14-of-34 passing for 212 yards and three touchdowns. He found Demaris Hunter on a 16-yard pass in the first quarter to start the scoring for the Raiders.
Reigning Southern Division defensive player of the week, Landrian Gordon, grabbed four of CLC's six interceptions. The other two came from Billy Hammer and Tyler Hanson. The Raiders also received a sack apiece from Sam Gallu and Chris Holland.
"Our defense was outstanding as usual, but it was a great team effort from both sides of the ball," said Raiders head coach Greg Medeck.
The victory moves CLC to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the Southern Division.
Before the season Medeck and Ridgewater coach Rob Baumgarn created a traveling trophy to intensify the two teams rivalry. In the trophy's inaugural season, the Raiders brought the "Axe" home to Brainerd with victory.
