Brainerd records eighth shutout GIRLS' SOCCER
BAXTER - With goals by Megan Bates and Kelly Rosenthal, the Brainerd Warriors completed the season sweep on Section 8-2A opponents with a 2-0 victory over Moorhead Saturday.
Off an assist from Rosenthal, Bates opened the scoring in the second half. Rosenthal scored her goal, off an assist from Sam Smith, two minutes later for the final score.
"The consensus after the game was that Megan Bates was playing at another level," said Warrior head coach Steve Kimble. "Her goal was started by a nice flip pass from Kelly. The two weren't too far apart and she split two defenders and Bates finished it.
"Megan had one of her best games I've seen her play in awhile. It's nice to have her healthy again. It changes the core of our team."
Also healthy are both Warrior keepers, who combined for Brainerd's eighth shutout of the season.
Betsy van de Hagen finished with four saves and Erin Olejnicak collected three.
"Two healthy keepers - we're pretty excited about that," said Kimble. "Besty played really well through the heart of our season. It's going to be a tough decision on who plays what. Whatever happens we're going to have a pretty solid person in there."
The voting for section seedings is Oct. 5.
