LOCAL SHORTS
Freshmen top Apollo
The Brainerd Warriors freshmen football team defeated St. Cloud Apollo 36-0 on Thursday.

Jordan Hayes had two rushing touchdowns and two pass receptions for TDs. Dan Lauer ran for a TD and had a 2-point conversion. Adam Paulson caught a conversion pass. Kevin Peterson threw for two TDs and also tossed a 2-point conversion pass. Zack Cadwell kicked two extra points.

On defense, Nate Gervenak had an interception and Jake Luke, Zach Taylor and Keith Haymaker had fumble recoveries.

Brainerd's next game is at 5 p.m. Thursday at Harvey Shew Field at Franklin Arts Center.

JV boys soccer wins

The Brainerd Warriors junior varsity boys' soccer team defeated Detroit Lakes 4-2 Saturday.

Brainerd keeper Matt Benson finished with five saves. Scoring for Brainerd were Garrette Hanson, Jeremy Bartel, Zach Meyer and Evan Werthman. Adam Tagtmeier added an assist.
