Warren Williams
Warren Williams, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away on Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn. He was born on July 23, 1942, in Cresco, Iowa. His parents, Earl and Flavia Williams, owned a farm east of Lime Springs, Iowa, and Warren grew up enjoying hunting in the woods as well as working in the fields. He graduated from Lime Springs High School in 1960 and then went on to obtain bachelor's degrees in business and economics from the University of Dubuque in 1964. Warren married Sharla Galvin, also of Lime Springs, on June 8, 1963.
Warren was well loved by all that knew him. He was a kind, generous and giving man who had an enduring impact on the Brainerd community. Warren spent the majority of his career working for Bremer Financial as senior vice president of commercial loans in St. Cloud from 1976-1982 and then serving as president of Bremer Bank in Brainerd from 1982 until his retirement in 2004. In addition to his work, Warren also served the community for many years on various boards such as Salvation Army, YMCA, Initiative Foundation, St. Joseph's Medical Center, Central Lakes Community College Foundation and was awarded the Brainerd Citizen of the Year award in 1997. He loved this work and truly enjoyed connecting with the people of the community in which he lived. Warren had many other interests including restoring and showing vintage Studebakers, researching family history and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sharla; three daughters, Jane (Eric Habig) Williams, Indianapolis, Ind., Carrie (Stuart) Fife, Savannah, Ga., and Jessica (Michael) Mickelson, Shanghai, China; and seven grandchildren, Marin, Carys and Charlie Habig, Mackenzie and Anna Fife, and Ellie and Kate Mickelson; and one brother, Claire Williams, Des Moines, Iowa. His parents and a brother, Wayne, preceded him in death.
The family would like to give special thanks to the many health care providers who cared for Warren over the past 12 years, primarily Dr. Carole Warnes and the cardiac teams of the Mayo Clinic and Brainerd Lakes Medical. He also formed close relationships with members of the cardiac rehabilitation group which he attended for 11 years.
Services will be held on Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Brainerd. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Interment will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lime Springs, Iowa. Arrangements are with the Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home in Brainerd.
Memorial donations could be directed to the Salvation Army, Gift of Life House in Rochester, Minn., or the Brainerd Lakes Heart and Vascular Center at St. Joseph's Medical Center.
