Armella Wahl
PARADISE, Calif. - Armella Christine Wahl, 90, Paradise, Calif., died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009. Born Jan. 9, 1919, in Pierz, Minn., to parents Henry Gau and Marie (Philippi) Gau. Armella was the eldest of three children. During WWII, she worked in a munitions factory, married Leonard H. Wahl and moved to California at the end of the war. Armella lived most of her married years in Redwood City and worked briefly outside the home in retail sales and school bus driving. Armella was also a part-time resident of Breezy Point, Minn., in later years.
A nine-year resident of Woodside Terrace, Redwood City, Armella was an active retiree and enjoyed swim fitness classes, card playing and meal-time chats. The last few years were difficult for Armella due to hearing and health loss.
Preceded in death by parents, Henry and Marie Gau; and husband, Leonard H. Wahl. Armella will be lovingly missed by daughter, Anne W. Benoit (Joe McNally); sons, Paul L. Wahl, Leonard J. Wahl (Sharon Mauldin); sister, Regina Barker, of Baxter, Minn., brother, James Gau, Brainerd, Minn.; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Earl Unzie. Internment will be private. Any memorials are requested to the charity of the donor.
