String of burglaries being investigated in Wadena County
The Wadena County Sheriff's Department is investigating a string of burglaries and thefts reported in the area.
Wadena County Sheriff Mike Carr said his deputies are checking with authorities in Hubbard and Cass counties to see if there are any related cases there. All of the reports came from seasonal residences, Carr said.
The first report came in Sept. 22 at a cabin on 211th Avenue in North Germany Township. A cabin was burglarized there sometime between Sept. 14 and Sept. 19 and the suspects likely gained entry to a shed by cutting a lock on a shed with a bolt cutter.
A Husqvarna chain saw was reported stolen from the shed but other items were left behind. At the same residence, investigators reported it looked like a pry bar was used to get into the cabin and the homeowner reported guns and ammunition were stolen, including a .22-caliber rifle, a brick of .22 ammunition, four Remington .30-06 magazines and approximately a dozen .30-06 rounds of ammunition.
On Sept. 24 a homeowner reported a shed on his property on 191st Avenue had been forced open. The man told deputies nothing had been taken but that it appeared someone had messed with his gun cases.
Four garages and sheds were reported burglarized on Sept. 27 on a property on 211th Avenue in Verndale. Two aluminum ladders and a riding mower were reported missing.
A theft complaint on 221st Avenue in Verndale also came in Sept. 27. A shed door was open and a lock had been cut off and was lying on the ground. A Coleman generator, three gas cans, tools and a quiver of broad head arrows was reported missing.
Also on Sept. 27, investigators went to investigate a theft report on 229th Avenue in Menahga. The homeowner said he had secured a gate to his property when he left the weekend of Sept. 13-14. When he came back Sept. 27, the gate was missing. The gate is 15 feet long and red. No other items were reported stolen.
