PIERZ - Pierz running back Cody Stangl shredded the Maple Lake defense with 268 yards on 18 carries and found the end zone five times as the Pioneers conquered the Irish 35-16 in Central Minnesota Conference football Friday.
Stangl scored on runs of 64-, 64-, 53-, 5- and 4-yards.
As a team Pierz rushed the ball 39 times for 414 yards with Zach Doroff taking three carries for 71 yards. John Omann rushed 12 times for 64 yards and also caught the Pioneers' only completed pass for 23 yards.
The Pierz defense was also stingy as Maple Lake only mustered 126 yards on 44 carries and 212 yards of total offense to the Pioneers' 437.
