Raiders pick up big road victory
COLLEGE FOOTBALL | RAIDERS 19, FERGUS FALLS 13
FERGUS FALLS - It took every Central Lakes College Raider football player, even the kicker, to defeat the Fergus Falls Spartans Saturday 19-13 in overtime to even their Southern Division record to 1-1.

Quarterback Andrew Maskell, who returned from a week one knee injury, hit Tyler Erickson for a 6-yard touchdown pass to hand the Raiders a 7-0 halftime lead.

Felipe Castro nailed the extra point kick and then added a 37-yard field goal in the third quarter and a 33 yarder in the fourth to set up the 13-13 tie after regulation.

In the overtime Dennis Taute rumbled in from 6-yards out for the game-winning score.

"This was a big division win for us in a close contest," said Raiders head coach Greg Medeck. "We had to go to overtime to get it done after we missed a 33-yard field goal attempt on the last play of the game."

The Raiders defense stuffed the Spartans on fourth down in overtime to set up the Raiders opportunity.

Taute ran the ball five straight plays in the overtime possession before finding the end zone and ending the game.

The victory moves the Raiders to 5-1 on the season after falling 27-6 to Rochester the week before.

The Raiders managed just 298 yards of offense, 200 of which came from Maskell's arm. Kevin Beehler caught six passes for 75 yards and Alex Leach had three receptions for 69 yards.

The Raiders defense held Fergus Falls to 228 yards. Lawson Starr, Roy Ash and Mark Fennig all had interceptions, while Matt Spoden, Jordan Macauley, Roy Ash and Cody Robbins all had sacks.

"It wasn't our best performances, but a good division win to keep us on pace for second place in the division and hopefully a playoff bid," said Medeck. "We will have to improve this next week as we host Minnesota West, who is coming off consecutive wins after opening the season 0-4."
