EAST GULL LAKE - Fire destroyed an unattached garage Monday afternoon at a cabin on Pike Bay of Gull Lake.
Firefighters were able to stop the fire from spreading to the nearby cabin, a second unattached garage and the surrounding woods.
The fire was reported at 11:36 a.m. by neighbor Gary Rivers and was located down a private road off Cass County Road 70 in East Gull Lake. The owner, Joe Greevla, was not at home at the time of the fire.
"I was in my house and saw black smoke rolling out of the trees," Rivers said. "I thought, 'Whoa, that ain't no campfire.'"

Rivers said he heard six to seven loud explosions in the garage.
The cause of the fire wasn't immediately known Monday, Brainerd Fire Assistant Chief Kevin Stunek said.
The wood-sided garage was a total loss. Inside the garage a pickup, tools and air compressor and other equipment was damaged.
"I was in my house and saw black smoke rolling out of the trees," Rivers said. "I thought, 'Whoa, that ain't no campfire.'"
Stunek estimated the dollar loss at $45,000-$50,000. A couple of trees next to the garage also were partially burned.
