Charles Richard Barbeau
He was born to Mary (Spenst) and George Barbeau on Aug. 3, 1927, on Barbeau Road near Brainerd, Minn. He married Freda Caroline Hutchinson on Oct. 22, 1955, in Heidelberg, Germany. He served in the U.S. Army Security Agency, retiring with more than 20 years of service on Sept. 1, 1971. His military career included service in three wars (WWII, Korea and Vietnam). During his term of service, he was awarded the following medals: Bronze Star Vietnam Service (Vietnam Campaign), Korean Services with three Bronze Stars, Army Commendation National Defense Service, Good Conduct with multiple awards.
He enjoyed outdoor activities, traveling and various hobbies, including woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Freddie; daughters, Ramona and Beth; son, Dan; his sister, Rose Bedel; and by four grandchildren, Sienna Barbeau, Anne and Helen Magnuson, and Jack Barbeau. He was preceded by his parents; brothers, Edmund, formerly of Council Bluffs, Iowa, George, formerly of Centralia, Wash., and Jim, formerly of Bullhead City, Ariz.; and sister, Marcella Masters, formerly of Brainerd, Minn.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Francis of the Lakes School.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd with Father Tony Wroblewski officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home with a rosary service at 7 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.
