What's the 'Racket?'
The 19th Century New York comedy "Captain Racket" continues at Central Lakes College. Showtimes are 3 p.m. Thursday and 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Chalberg Theatre on the Brainerd campus. Tickets are $5.
FRIDAY-SATURDAY: COMEDY
Double dose of laughs
Two popular Minnesota comedians will be in the Brainerd lakes area this weekend. Moorhead's Fred Bevill (above left) will take the mic at 8 p.m. Friday at TMaxwell's in Staples. And Elk River magician/funnyman Nicholas Anthony (above right) will wow the crowd at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Rail in downtown Brainerd. Tickets are $10 in Staples and $7-$10 in Brainerd.
SATURDAY: MUSIC
Harmonious sounds
A cappella group the Harmony Engineers will chug into gear at 7 p.m. Saturday at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa. The talented bluegrass musicians of the Shaffer Family (most of whom played with now-defunct Lonesome Tradition) and LouAnn Eppelsheimer also will perform, and an ice-cream social will follow the show.
SATURDAY-SUNDAY: MUSIC
Orchestra says 'aloha'
The 30th season of the Heartland Symphony Orchestra gets under way with "Hawaii in the Heartland." Shows are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Martin Auditorium in Little Falls High School and 2 p.m. Sunday at Tornstrom Auditorium, Washington Educational Services Building, in Brainerd. Tickets are $6-$9.
SUNDAY: MUSIC
Four times the fun
The Christian music genre displays its range when four acts perform starting at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Forestview Middle School in Baxter. Superchick will supply the pop hooks, Sanctus Real will serve up emotional rock, Last Tuesday will bring the blue-collar riffs and John Reuben will perform and emcee. Tickets are $12-$17.
