Pond hockey registration under way
Registration for the Brainerd Parks and Recreation Department's pond hockey program is under way.

The Brainerd pond hockey program is open to boys and girls ages 7-10 (Penguins) and boys and girls ages 11-15 (Polar Bears). Age is determined as of Dec. 31, 2006.

Equipment is provided to the first 48 players to register. Players must provide skates, sticks and mouthguards. Goalie equipment is also provided.

Cost is $30 per participant. Registration deadline is Dec. 15. Equipment will be handed out at 1 p.m. Dec. 16 in the Brainerd Area Civic Center mezzanine area.

The season begins after Jan. 1 and lasts six weeks, weather permitting. Games will be played against Baxter and Nisswa on Saturday mornings. Practices will be once or twice a week at Mill Avenue Park.

The purpose of the league is to improve skating skills and learn the game. Standings are not kept. Volunteer coaches are needed.

Time changed for Raiders football game

Saturday's football game between the Central Lakes College Raiders and Fergus Falls Spartans at Findorff Athletic Complex in Brainerd has been changed to 12:30 p.m.

Herath to speak to boosters club

Brainerd Warriors cross country coach Dave Herath will be the speaker at the Brainerd Sports Boosters Club meeting, which begins at noon Thursday at the Moose Lodge.

Tyler Hanson, the Warrior Athlete of the Week, will be honored.
