Crisis in the marsh topic to be discussed
BAXTER - Crisis in the marsh will be discussed at a Brainerd Area Environmental Learning Network event from 3-5 p.m. Thursday at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency in Baxter.
Lt. Todd Manley, who has served as a wetland/water resource enforcement officer for the past 16 years, will share his work on the wetlands enforcement project called "Operation Birds Eye."
Manley will discuss how the lands in north-central Minnesota that are rich with wetlands and critical habitat are monitored and protected without being disturbed. In April, the DNR took to the skies to keep an eye on the valuable resources.
Manley said the DNR is charged with the enforcement of the Wetland Conservation Act. He said it can't have a game warden behind every tree, but from the air officials can see if an area is being drained, filled or excavated.
