Nisswa retail businesses decorated each home with its merchandise. Tour-goers visited the homes, with the option to purchase any products they liked, while supporting the Lakes Area Food Shelf.
Kim Piehl, committee chair of the tour, said that last year, the Tour of Homes provided 67,500 pounds of food that fed 2,250 people. This year, Piehl said about 900 people made the tour. The amount raised is yet to be determined.

Morken said they placed a Christmas tree in the middle of McDonald's living room - a Scandinavian tradition. A stone arch supported by full logs divides the living room and the dining room. The kitchen featured a black granite bar, a red range - a high-tech replica of an old-fashioned stove - and a farm sink Kristil McDonald found in a field near Backus.
Lisa Omodt of Compliments with ArtGarbs said she decorated the Navarro and Miller home in coastal decor that included red and white "Live, Laugh, Love" hand towels and one word expressions, such as "Believe" and "Peace." The home was built in 1999 and remodeled in 2008. The walls are soft lemon in color and the cabinetry and trim are white to give the home a coastal feel. The dining area has views of the bocce ball court, the outside bar and fire pit.

The Carriage House Gallery used decor in the Gawlik' home to match its western style. Feathers were used in Christmas trees and around the home and a horse statue and cowboy boot ornaments were placed on a dining table. Three tall, skinny angels sat on a barrel and sparkling stars hung from the ceiling. The home's interior featured arched rustic beams, soaring stacked windows and hand-hewn maple flooring. The master bedroom is done in bright fuchsia and turquoise colors and the master bath includes a river-rock shower floor that spills into the bathroom floor. The home includes a bonus room above the garage that sleeps 14. The Gawlik's call their lower level the "Deadwood Saloon." It features a poker table and a wet bar in the main area.

Peggy Schoening of Woodland Meadow decorated the Paurus' custom-built home with elegant decor that gave the home a warm feel. Schoening also brought the outdoors inside by hanging large maple leaves on the bay window that overlooks the lake. The 4,500-square-foot home has an open foyer area that greets the great room, which features a stone fireplace. Through the dining area and past the kitchen - with black mission-style cabinetry and a large granite center island - is a stone archway that offers a cozy sitting area with windows that serve as walls. The area was decorated in red berries, stones, flowers and butterflies.
