Lakes area fishing and hunting report
LAKE MILLE LACS

East - The best walleye action is taking place late in the afternoon through nighttime hours on the shallow rock points and reefs with crankbaits. Smallmouth bass remain active on the rocks as well, but muskie action remains poor.

West - You'll still hook walleyes on the flats with live bait in 22 to 27 feet during the day. Trolling crankbaits on the rock points, reefs, and shoreline breaks has worked best during low-light periods and after dark. The weedlines and weed tops in St. Alban's Bay and Wigwam Bay are holding northern pike.

LEECH LAKE AREA

Perch action continues to be excellent in six to 12 feet off Sand Point, Goose Island Flats, and Grandview Flats. Walleye reports have been spotty with a few fish coming off the points in eight to 12 feet. An occasional muskie is pulled off the rocks and crappies have started hitting in the north end of Sucker Bay and Shingobee Bay. Duck hunters are seeing mallards and ring necks in good numbers and grouse hunting remains decent.

BRAINERD-NISSWA AREA

Walleye fishing has been best in 17 to 38 feet with minnows and jigs on Gull_Lake, North Long Lake, and Pelican_Lake. Sucker minnows under bobbers are producing northern pike in 18 to 26 feet on the south end of Gull and North Long.

CROSBY AREA

Walleyes are taking redtails and shiners in 23 to 28 feet on Pelican Lake, Serpent Lake, and Rabbit Lake during the day. After dark, crankbaits are producing in six to eight feet on these lakes. Crankbaits are working best during the morning hours for rainbow trout at Pennington_Pit and Portsmouth Pit and some brook trout are being caught along the shorelines of Huntington Pit and Snowshoe Pit. Ring necks, mallards, and geese are providing waterfowl hunters with some action and grouse hunting has improved since the leaves started falling.
