Notification meeting planned for Long Prairie predatory offender
LONG PRAIRIE - A Level 3 predatory offender is living in Long Prairie.
The Long Prairie Police Department has scheduled a community notification meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Long Prairie/Grey Eagle High School auditorium.
Minnesota law requires that community notification meetings occur when a Level 3 predatory offender moves into a local jurisdiction. While the law does not prevent these people from moving or living in any particular area, it does allow local residents to be aware of it so they can take steps to safeguard themselves.
Christopher Nicholas Sonsalla, 27, moved Thursday onto Third Street South in Long Prairie He has a history of engaging in sexual contact with female victims, ages 14-16. Sonsalla was known to his victims. He has served his sentence. Sonsalla is described as a white male with a medium build who is 5 feet 9 inches tall and 228 pounds with hazel eyes and brown hair.
Representatives from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the state Department of Corrections and the Long Prairie Police Department will be on hand to provide more information at the meeting.
In a news release, the Long Prairie Police Department noted the notification meeting is not intended to increase fear in the community but that the department believes an informed public is a safer public.
Predatory offender levels range from Level 1 offenders who are considered a minor risk up to Level 3, which means the person is the most likely to reoffend.
