Church news Trixie's tropical Halloween party
NISSWA - Trixie's tropical Halloween party will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Christ Community Church, 24646 Hazelwood Dr., Nisswa. There will be games, candy, hot dogs and popcorn.
All Saints Day at UCC
First Congregational United Church of Christ will celebrate All Saints Day at the 10 a.m. service Sunday using the Mexican tradition of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Bring photos or mementos to place on the altar in honor of loved ones. Jan Kurtz, Spanish instructor at Central Lakes College, will lead the adult forum at 11:15 a.m. She will compare cultural rituals of remembering the dead and explore how we can enrich our own spiritual traditions in new and meaningful ways.
Southern country gospel concert
In HIS Name will perform in a Southern country gospel concert at 7 p.m. Nov. 6 at South Long Lake Presbyterian Church, eight miles south of Brainerd on Highway 25, one-fourth mile west on Old Church Road.
Father West to make presentation
Father Peter J. West, associate director of Priests for Life, will make a presentation about the church's teachings on sanctity of life issues at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Francis Hall (downstairs), St. Francis Parish, Ninth and Juniper, Brainerd.
The presentation, "Confronting the culture of death by building a culture of life," will include discussion on health care reform debate and strategies to help live out faith in a public way.
He also will concelebrate Mass and give the homily at 8 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew's Parish in Brainerd. From 9-11:15 a.m. Tuesday he will visit each class at St. Francis School. He will be the keynote speaker for a clergy luncheon at noon Tuesday at Prairie Bay in Baxter in honor of the service and appreciation to the priests and deacons of the Duluth Diocese for this year has been dedicated by Pope Benedict XVI as "The Year of the Priest."
Harvest Fest at Thomastown Covenant
STAPLES - Thomastown Covenant Church, west of Staples Technical College on County Road 2 two miles and four miles north County Road 29, will host Harvest Fest at 7 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday.
Sunday is music night with the Haining Family, six people with six blended voices and many instruments.
Monday through Wednesday will feature special speaker Pastor Jack Trosen and music by The Schimpps and Gary Timbs.
Trick or treating for Brainerd lakes food shelves
The youths of Open Door Church of Breezy Point will be trick or treating from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday to collect food for area food shelves. Anyone who participates will be treating local families to a meal this fall/winter.
New Song Ministries/Crossroads Music Cafe
The New Song Ministries/Crossroads Music Cafe will sponsor Rockfish for praise and worship from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Sunday. Pointway will be the praise and worship group at 7 p.m. Thursday at Crossroads Music Cafe, 217 South Seventh St., Brainerd. For more information, call 829-0834.
Concert at Oak Street Chapel
There will be a concert from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Oak Street Chapel in Brainerd. In HIS Name, Faye, Missy and Kathy and the Oak Street Chapel Praise Band will all perform. An offering will be taken for Love in Action.
Rejoice Lutheran spaghetti supper
Rejoice Lutheran will host a spaghetti supper from 4-7 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, 424 South Eighth St., Brainerd. Cost: $7.50 for adults; $4 for ages 5-12; free for ages 4 and under. Tickets are available at the Rejoice office, 803 Kingwood St., No. 206, or any of the ELCA Lutheran churches in Brainerd or Baxter or call 839-5551.
