The Brainerd area United Way has reached its goal of $135,000. The goal was the highest ever in the United Way history.

Brainerd's Community Blood Bank, now in its 24th year of operation, open its annual membership drive today.
40 years ago (1966)
A changing view on Brainerd's needs was evident at this years' annual meeting of the Brainerd Chamber of Commerce. Improvement of downtown, creation of more free parking lots, the need for changing Brainerd's retail image on prices and quality and the need for all stores to be open one night a week.

Approximately 80 employees of the local Montgomery Ward store, wives, husbands and escorts enjoyed a chicken dinner at Lonesome Pine on Bay Lake Wednesday evening.
