LOCAL BRIEFS Christmas for Kids drive drop-off slated
NISSWA - A drop-off point for warm winter clothes and toys for this year's Christmas for Kids drive is the Edward Jones Investments office on Main Street in downtown Nisswa, across from the Nisswa Chamber of Commerce.
Last year, Christmas for Kids shopped for about 184 children.
People may bring an unwrapped gift to the Edward Jones office between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays beginning Friday and continuing through Dec. 10. Cash donations also are welcome.
A large Christmas box in the foyer will be available for the drop-off.

Signature Chefs Auction scheduled Nov. 9
The 10th annual Signature Chefs Auction, "Celebrating Old Hollywood," presented by Lakewood Health System, will be at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at Breezy Point Resort.
The event benefits the March of Dimes.
Join the Brainerd lakes area's best chefs as guests indulge in this tasting event. Open seating tickets are available for $50. Reserved tables of 10 are available for $500.
Enjoy an evening in Hollywood with gourmet food prepared by chefs from across the Brainerd lakes area, including honorary star chef Matt Annand of Prairie Bay and samples from Rockwoods, Sibley Station, Black Bear, Lakes Latte Casual Catering, Woodlands Steakhouse at Grand Casino, Maucieri's and Breezy Point.
A live and silent auction also will be conducted. Numerous items, memorabilia, luxury experiences and tickets to Hollywood shows will be offered.

Confidence Learning Center receives checks
John Tobie, past president and current membership chairperson for the Fraternal Order of Eagles, presented a check for $7,000 to the Camp Confidence Learning Center from the Grand Rapids Eagles event.
The funds were accepted by executive director Jeff Olson and board chairman Karen Owen.
The Rally Up North Committee also presented a check from its fall fundraiser. In addition to that $16,000, Eric Anderson, Shari Grave, Jim Christensen, Bart Harmer, Amy Spitzack and Jesse Fossum presented a check for $3,000 to the camp.
Brainerd VFW activities set
Wednesday night is taco night at the Brainerd VFW. Cost is three tacos for $3. Live music will be provided by Tom.
Cathy's roast beef dinner will be served from 5:30-7 p.m. Friday. Cost is $7. Reservations are appreciated by calling 829-6393.
