Brainerd School Board incumbent Bob Nystrom was defeated by former longtime Brainerd High School principal Jim Hunt in the Brainerd School Board race for a two-year term on the school board.
"It's pretty humbling," Hunt, who watched the results at home, said of the election results. "It's pretty exciting."

Hunt won the two-year race with 1,553 votes or about 55 percent of the vote, with Nystrom in second place with 666 votes, or 24 percent. Tom Peterson had 411 votes, or 14 percent, and Theresa Knierim had 205 votes or 7.22 percent. There were 3 write-in votes.
"I have tremendous respect for Jim," said Nystrom. "I wish him all the best.
"I've enjoyed my eight years on the school board. We went through some difficult times, but we turned things around. We will have a good board for the future. They'll have to face some tough decisions, face difficult challenges and they'll need all the support they can get and I'll give them all the support I can."
Of the 21 precincts in the Brainerd School Board race, the first precinct arrived at the Crow Wing County Courthouse to report results about 9 p.m. while the last precinct came in well after midnight.
